Birmingham Childrens Hospital Event

The 1000 stories team in action at the Children's Hospital delivering a version of the flying pages book of Birmingham.

We were invited by Sandhu Amrit from the corporate nursing team “play and activities” Department. During the two days she helped us get the children in the outpatients department telling their stories through making drawings, tracings and rubbings.

We were joined for a short session each day by students from the James Brindley School who enjoyed learning some traditional drawing skills as well as a fun animated silhouette activity.





Further stories - Yellow Week

The recent yellow week for our Subsidiary Diploma in Art and Design centred on the theme of the rich variety of fruit and vegetables now available in the area due to the diversity of the ethnic mix in the region. Just one of the thousand stories that Birmingham generates. Above you can see a short film which captures the week-long activities.

This is a time laps of our latest  drawing workshop, which was held at Birmingham Central Library.

Workshop with Robert Perry at Outline

A couple of days after the seminar Robert Perry RBSA gave up some of his precious time to run a day-long workshop with a selected group of art and design students from courses across the art and design department. After the Outline seminar with Robert it became apparent that students wanted to find out more about the great variety of processes and techniques Robert uses in his work. Therefore the workshop with Robert was highly anticipated by our students, as it gave the students the chance to learn from Robert's great wealth of experience as a fine artist and historian.

After Robert presented his work that he had done at several World War sites across Europe during his Outline seminar, the students used images, newspaper clippings, battle maps and war poetry as inspiration for their own artwork.

Workshop with Robert Perry at Outline, part 2

This post is showcasing the fantastic work that was produced in the day-long workshop with Robert Perry RBSA. 

In the afternoon we also welcomed a small group of students from BMAPA, which is the performing arts department of the college. The BMAPA students are currently rehearsing for the play "Oh, What a Lovely War" by Charles Chilton, which will shortly be performed by the students at the Old Joint Stock in Birmingham. Upon seeing the work that was produced during the workshop with Robert, the performing arts students express their interest to feature some of the work that was produced as part of  their performance.

Up your Street - An experimental workshop

During yellow week our Extended Diploma in Art & Design group was working on a week-long project, which was entitled "Up your Street". Based on research gathered by the students which was informed and inspired by their local surroundings, the group set about working on art and design outcomes, with the aim to showcase the work created to friends, families and fellow students in form of an exhibition at the end of the week.
Students specialising in different areas, such as fine art, visual communication, 3D and photography worked together in groups on a great range and variety of outcomes. The week was a great success and the work produced at a high standard. Many thanks to all students and staff involved.
