“FEED” Evening with visiting artist Saranjit Birdi

OUTLINE
welcomed  former student Saranjit Birdi to the first FEED evening of 2013/2014. Saranjit spoke about his varied practice as an Architect, Choreographer, Theatre Designer and his work on Public Art Commissions.  His fusion of drawing and dance was of particular interest to the OUTLINE initiative.

At the end of his talk he demonstrated his drawing abilities with different parts of his anatomy! Making a portrait of Programme Manager Ian Andrews in 10 minutes using his feet!

Then it was “socks off” for those  willing to have a go themselves!

The “Engage and Exhibit” group of first year Subsidiary Diploma volunteers from Outline created a large environmental drawing during the “Birmingham Made Me” Expo at Millennium Point. Working live and watched by members of the public from midday until early evening the group improvised a giant composition of aspects of Birmingham.

Well done to the "Engage and Exhibit" group.

Workshop at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery for the Friends Open Evening

A group of first year students from Subsidiary Diploma at a workshop to support the Friends of BMAG in instigating a series of open evenings where the museum stays open until nine o'clock during the summer months. The students worked on a version of "project in a night" choosing an object from the history galleries and developing a series of studies.

Taking over the galleries for a group critique at the end of the evening. Obviously each object had a story to tell about the history of Birmingham and the students were encouraged to pick one that had a significance for them personally.

Project in a Night displayed as the Flying Pages

Project in a night involves the production of a series of drawings developing an idea or theme in a short space of time. This sequential development is naturally suited to the flying pages method of display

Seen here displayed in the Outline Department itself ,this presentational format  is becoming extremely popular and generated a lot of interest from members of the public and colleagues.

Outline presents a "Drop in " Event at Birmingham Book Festival

The 1000 stories team worked with members of the public attending the Birmingham book Festival to create the "flying pages" of the book of Birmingham Installation.

Participants were encouraged to contribute in a variety of ways from making a freehand drawing that expressed something about themselves, to making a quick rubbing of their postcode telling us about the areas they travelled in from.

Some participants traced images from famous Birmingham landmarks, others made more personal contributions revealing more details about their stories in visual form.
